Privacy Policy
01What we collect
- Waitlist data — before launch: the name, email address and platform you submit on this site, plus the timestamp and IP of the submission, kept to send your invite and prevent abuse.
- Account data — email, username, display name, bio, avatar, interest hashtags and preferred content languages. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and verified email address from that provider to create or link your account; your provider password is never shared with us.
- Content — cuts you record, upload or write (audio, description, hashtags), transcripts, stations you create, station subscriptions, comments, likes, bookmarks, follows and reports you file.
- Usage — what you play, playback settings (speed, shuffle, autoplay), search queries, language and theme preferences.
- Device & session data — device type, OS, app version, push-notification tokens and session identifiers, shown in Settings → Devices.
02How we use it
To operate and improve Cuts: build your feed, search results and recommendations from your interests, follows, listening activity and preferred languages; sync playback and settings across devices; deliver notifications you enable; keep the platform safe (moderation, spam and abuse prevention); and understand aggregate usage. Waitlist details are used only to send you your launch invite — nothing else. We do not sell personal data and we do not show third-party ad tracking.
03Audio, transcripts & AI
Microphone access is requested only when you record a cut, and recording stops at the two-minute mark or when you tap stop.
- Transcripts — automatic transcription is optional: a toggle when you publish. If it's on, your audio is converted to text on our servers to power read-along text, search and accessibility; if it's off, you can type your own transcript or publish without one.
- AI detection — we analyze uploaded audio and its metadata to detect and label AI-generated content.
- Copyright check — on iOS, audio is checked on your device against Apple's music-recognition service (ShazamKit) before publishing to catch copyrighted music; that check is handled by Apple under Apple's terms.
04What's public
Your profile (username, display name, bio, interest hashtags, follower and following counts) and everything you publish — cuts, public stations, comments, likes and other activity on public content — are visible to other users. Listening history, bookmarks, private stations, drafts, settings, your email address and preferred languages are private. Waitlist submissions are never public.
05Sharing
We share data only with service providers who help us run Cuts — hosting and storage, email delivery, push notifications (Apple Push Notification service, Firebase Cloud Messaging), speech-to-text transcription, on-device music recognition (Apple ShazamKit), and Google reCAPTCHA for spam protection on the waitlist form — under contracts limiting their use of it; with authorities when legally required; and in aggregate, de-identified form. If you sign in with Google or Apple, that provider processes the sign-in under its own privacy policy.
06Sync & devices
Cuts runs on six platforms with one account. To make that work, your subscriptions, playback position and settings are stored on our servers and synced to devices where you're signed in. You can review and sign out any session in Settings → Devices.
07Notifications
With your permission, we send push notifications about activity on your content (likes, comments), new followers, new cuts from authors you follow, and moderation outcomes on your posts and reports. You can turn them off any time in Settings or in your device's system settings. Email is used only for account essentials and your waitlist invite.
08Retention & deletion
We keep data while your account is active. Deleting a cut or a comment removes it from the platform; deleting your account removes your profile and content, with backups purged on a rolling schedule. Waitlist entries are deleted once launch invites have gone out, or sooner on request. Moderation and report records may be retained where the law requires.
09Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to processing. Most of this is available directly in Settings → Edit Profile; for anything else, contact us and we'll respond within 30 days.
10Children
Cuts is not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your country). If we learn that a child's account exists, we will delete it.
11Changes & contact
We'll announce material changes to this policy in-app before they take effect.
